How to Choose the Right Size Door Threshold

Begin by measuring the full width of your doorway. It’s helpful to allow a touch of extra length so the bar can be trimmed for a perfectly flush fit. If your opening is wider, selecting an extended-length threshold avoids needing multiple joins.

For hard-to-hard flooring, consider how much coverage you want across each surface. Always check the height of the two floors as well; if one sits considerably higher, a ramped profile with a gentle incline will help maintain a safe, level transition.

If the threshold sits directly beneath a door, ensure there’s enough height clearance to accommodate the door bar without the door catching.

Flooring Compatibility

Hard-floor thresholds are suitable for joining most types of hard flooring, including tiles, wood, laminate, vinyl, and LVT. They’re designed to protect the edges of both surfaces while giving you a clean, uninterrupted join that connects the two floors together.

Where the two floors differ in height, a ramped threshold or the use of Easyshim can help build up the lower floor by up to 11mm, creating a seamless finish that is safe and looks professionally installed.

What are the different options for door thresholds?

We supply thresholds for every flooring combination: carpet-to-carpet, carpet-to-hard-floor, and hard-floor-to-hard-floor. Finishes include brass, bronze, pewter, nickel, chrome and black.

Can you replace just the threshold of a door?

Yes. The bar can be swapped out on its own. Simply remove the existing piece, measure the doorway accurately, and fit a replacement using the correct fixings.

Does it work with my door type?

Thresholds are designed to work with standard internal doors. The most important factors are choosing the right width for your doorway and a profile that suits your floor heights.

Will it withstand foot traffic/wear?

Yes. These thresholds are designed to protect hard flooring edges in the busiest areas of the home, helping maintain both safety and appearance over time. They are made from durable, solid brass and have an unlacquered finish for long-lasting use. 

What type of fixings does it require?

Depending on the style, thresholds may use screws, adhesive or a grip-fitting system. Most products include the necessary fixings. Refer to the installation notes for your chosen bar.

Can I install this myself?
