Description

The Premier Z9 door threshold is designed to create a neat and durable transition between carpet and hard flooring, including ceramic tiles, wood, laminate, stone, and rubber. Often referred to as a ‘Z bar’ due to its profile shape, it provides a firm grip on the carpet while allowing the hard flooring to sit neatly alongside it.

Suitable for carpets approximately 9–12mm thick, the carpet is secured onto integrated pins, with thicker carpets requiring compression for a snug fit.

For the best installation, both floor surfaces should be level. If the hard flooring sits slightly higher than the carpet, 3mm MDF strips can be placed beneath the threshold to raise it, ensuring the visible bar sits neatly over the edge of the hard floor while the pins align correctly with the carpet.

Once installed, the carpet can be ‘napped down’ using a carpeted wood block, improving grip and reducing the height slightly.

Manufactured from solid brass with rounded edges and finished in antique brass, this door threshold combines durability with a more traditional, characterful appearance.

How to Choose the Right Size Door Threshold

Measure the width of the doorway or area where the carpet meets the hard floor. Select a slightly longer length so the threshold can be trimmed to fit precisely.

The Z9 profile is designed for carpets within the 9–12mm range. Ensure both floor surfaces are level before installation. If the hard flooring is slightly higher, use MDF strips to raise the threshold accordingly.

If the carpet sits lower than the hard floor, Easyshims can be used to create a gradual ramp underneath.

How to Install a Door Threshold Step-by-Step

Installing a Premier Z9 door threshold can be completed using basic tools:

  1. Measure and cut the threshold to the required length using a hacksaw.
  2. Prepare the bar by removing one side of the base along the scored groove using pliers (turn anti-clockwise).
  3. Position the threshold over the join between carpet and hard flooring.
  4. Adjust height using MDF strips if required.
  5. Fix the threshold using adhesive, nails, or screws (avoiding underfloor heating).
  6. Press the carpet onto the pins so it is held securely.
  7. Use a carpeted wood block to ‘nap down’ the carpet for a firmer grip.
  8. Check that the threshold is level and securely fixed.

How to Remove an Existing Door Threshold

First, determine how the existing threshold has been fixed.

If screws are present, remove them using the correct screwdriver. If nailed, gently lift the threshold using a claw hammer or pry bar.

Release the carpet edge from the pins before removing the trim, taking care not to damage the surrounding flooring.

Remove any remaining fixings before installing the new threshold.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Dust regularly to prevent micro-scratches
  • Clean with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning to prevent water marks
  • Avoid abrasive or harsh cleaning products
  • Use a suitable metal polish occasionally if you wish to maintain the original finish

As this door threshold is unlacquered, it will naturally develop a patina over time, enhancing the depth and character of the antique bronze finish.
