Description

The Premier Z13 door threshold provides a reliable method for joining deep-pile carpet to hard floor surfaces such as tile, stone, wood, or thick LVT. Suitable for carpets up to approximately 13mm thick (when compressed), it ensures a firm and stable connection across doorways and room transitions.

For carpets of a standard thickness (around 8–10mm), the Premier Z9 is typically a better alternative.

To achieve the best result, the base floors beneath both the carpet and hard flooring should be level. Where slight height differences occur, 3mm MDF strips are included and can be stacked beneath the threshold to raise it slightly, allowing it to sit correctly over the edge of the hard floor.

Once fitted, the carpet can be pressed onto the pins and ‘napped down’ using a carpeted wood block, improving grip and reducing the height slightly.

Manufactured from solid brass with rounded edges and finished in polished brass, this door threshold combines strength, longevity, and a classic, high-shine appearance.

How to Choose the Right Size Door Threshold

Measure the width of the doorway or transition area and select a slightly longer length so the threshold can be trimmed for a precise fit.

The Z13 profile is intended for thicker carpets. If your carpet is thinner, consider the Z9 option instead.

Ensure the base floors are level. If the hard flooring sits slightly higher than the carpet, use the included MDF strips to raise the threshold. If the carpet needs to be lifted, Easyshims can be used to create a gradual incline.

How to Install a Door Threshold Step-by-Step

Installing a Premier Z13 door threshold can be completed using standard tools:

  1. Measure and cut the threshold to the required length using a hacksaw.
  2. Convert the bar if needed by removing one side of the base along the scored groove using pliers (turn anti-clockwise).
  3. Position the threshold over the join between carpet and hard flooring.
  4. Adjust height using MDF strips if necessary.
  5. Fix the threshold using adhesive, nails, or screws (avoiding underfloor heating).
  6. Press the carpet onto the pins to secure it.
  7. Use a carpeted wood block to ‘nap down’ the carpet for a tighter grip.
  8. Ensure the threshold sits evenly and securely across the join.

How to Remove an Existing Door Threshold

Identify how the existing threshold has been fixed.

If screws are used, remove them carefully with the correct screwdriver. If nailed, gently lift the threshold using a claw hammer or pry bar.

Release the carpet from the pins before removing the threshold, taking care not to damage surrounding materials.

Remove any remaining fixings before installing the new threshold.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean using a soft cloth and a mild cleaning solution
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals

This product is made from solid brass and hand-finished, so slight variations in appearance may occur. As it is unlacquered, the finish may naturally develop a patina over time depending on its environment.
