Fastest Available Option*

Description

The Premier Double Z13 door threshold is specifically designed to join two extra-deep pile carpets, making it ideal for thicker flooring installations. Its double Z (double naplock) design securely grips both carpet edges, creating a neat and seamless transition across doorways or open spaces.

Suitable for carpets approximately 13mm to 18mm thick (excluding underlay), this door threshold strip ensures a strong and stable join, even in high-traffic areas. It can also be adapted to join carpet to a hard floor by removing one base section, offering additional flexibility where needed.

Crafted from solid brass with a polished brass finish, this door bar combines durability with a bright, classic appearance that complements a wide range of interior styles.

Sizing Specifications

Threshold width: 30mm (visible top bar)
Approximate thickness: 4mm
Suitable for carpets: approx. 13mm–18mm thick (excluding underlay)
Available lengths: 900mm, 1000mm, 1800mm and 2700mm

Important: This trim is designed primarily for carpet-to-carpet joins. Both floors should be level for the best fit. MDF packing strips (included) can be used if floor levels vary slightly. Your underlay should stop short of the threshold.

Flooring Compatibility

The Premier Double Z13 is compatible with:

  • Carpet to carpet joins (extra thick carpets)
  • Carpet to hard floor (with modification by removing one base section)

Not suitable for:

  • Standard thickness carpet (8-10mm)
  • Uneven floor levels without adjustment

How to Choose the Right Size Door Threshold

Start by measuring the width of your doorway or the area where the carpet join will sit. Choose a slightly longer length so the door threshold strip can be trimmed for a precise fit.

This Double Z13 door bar is specifically designed for thicker carpets. If your carpet is closer to 8–10mm thick, the Double Z9 may be a more suitable option.

Ensure both floor surfaces are level. If there is a slight difference in height, use the included MDF packing strips to achieve a flush, professional finish.

How to Install a Door Threshold Step-by-Step

Installing a Double Z13 door threshold is straightforward:

  1. Measure the doorway width and cut the door bar to size using a hacksaw.
  2. Position the threshold centrally over the carpet join.
  3. Ensure carpets are correctly positioned and underlay stops short of the threshold.
  4. Fix the threshold in place using adhesive, nails, or screws (avoid underfloor heating areas).
  5. Tuck the carpet edges onto the pins on both sides.
  6. Use a carpeted wood block to ‘nap down’ the threshold, securing the carpet firmly.
  7. Check the bar sits flush and evenly across the join.

Ideal for extra-thick carpets and includes a needled, under-carpet base strip on both sides to grip the carpet.

How to Remove an Existing Door Threshold

To remove an existing door threshold, first identify how it has been fixed.

If secured with screws, carefully remove them using the correct screwdriver. For nails, use a claw hammer or pry bar to gently lift the threshold.

For double Z door bars, release the carpet edges from the pins before lifting the bar. Take care to avoid damaging carpet fibres or underlay.

Clear away any remaining fixings or debris before installing your new door threshold strip.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Dust regularly to prevent dirt build-up
  • Wipe with a soft cloth and mild cleaner when required
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals
  • Use a suitable metal polish to maintain the polished brass finish

As this door threshold is made from solid brass and is unlacquered, it may naturally develop a patina over time depending on its environment. For more advice, read our door threshold maintenance guide.
