The slim 16mm width is ideal where a subtle finish is preferred. Ensure your carpets are within the recommended thickness range and that both floor levels are even to achieve the best result.
How to Install a Door Threshold Step-by-Step
Installing a Slim D door threshold strip is a simple DIY project:
- Install carpet gripper rods on both sides of the join to hold the carpets securely.
- Measure the doorway and cut the door bar to size using a hacksaw.
- Position the threshold strip centrally over the join.
- Tuck the carpet edges neatly into the profile on each side.
- Use a carpeted wood block to gently ‘nap down’ the threshold into place.
- Ensure the door strip sits flush and secure along its full length.

How to Remove an Existing Door Threshold
To remove an existing door threshold, start by identifying how it has been fixed in place. Most door thresholds are secured using either screws, nails, or adhesive.
If the threshold is fixed with screws, use the correct screwdriver to carefully remove them. If the screws are difficult to turn or stuck in place, gently tap the screw heads with a hammer to help loosen them before attempting to unscrew again.
For thresholds secured with nails, use a claw hammer or pry bar to carefully lift and remove them. Work slowly and evenly along the length of the door bar to avoid damaging the surrounding flooring.
If the door threshold strip has been fitted into carpet (as with double Z bars), gently lift and release the carpet edges first before removing the bar. Take care not to damage the carpet fibres or underlay.
Clear away any remaining fixings or debris before installing your new door threshold strip.
