Premier Slim D Polished Nickel door threshold strips provide a sleek and ultra-discreet solution for joining carpets seamlessly. With a slim 16mm profile and bright polished nickel finish, this door bar delivers a clean, modern transition that complements contemporary interiors.

Description

The Premier Slim D door threshold is an ultra-narrow double Z bar designed specifically for carpet-to-carpet joins. Its compact 16mm width makes it ideal for achieving a subtle, minimalist finish where a wider door threshold strip would be too noticeable.

The polished nickel finish offers a crisp, reflective look that pairs perfectly with modern décor, chrome fittings, and lighter interior schemes. Whether used in doorways or across larger spaces, this door strip ensures a neat, professional join while maintaining a low-profile appearance.

Unlike standard double Z door bars, this Slim D version does not include a base plate. This means carpets must be secured using gripper rods beneath, allowing for a streamlined design without compromising performance.

Key Features

  • Ultra-slim 16mm wide door threshold strip for discreet carpet joins
  • Designed for carpet-to-carpet applications

  • Polished nickel finish for a sleek, contemporary look
  • Made from high-quality solid brass for durability and strength
  • Unlacquered finish allows for natural ageing over time
  • Suitable for carpets up to approximately 12mm thick (compressing to around 9mm)
  • Low-profile design helps reduce visible joins and trip hazards
  • Ideal for modern interiors seeking a refined finish

Flooring Compatibility

Premier Slim D door thresholds are compatible with:

  • Carpet to carpet joins

Not suitable for:

  • Hard flooring (wood, tile, laminate, vinyl)
  • Carpet to hard floor transitions

How to Choose the Right Size Door Threshold

Measure the width of your doorway or the area where the carpet join will sit, allowing a little extra so the door threshold strip can be trimmed for a precise fit.

This 16mm door bar is ideal where a subtle, minimalist look is preferred. Ensure your carpets fall within the recommended thickness range and that both subfloors are level to achieve a smooth, professional finish.

How to Install a Door Threshold Step-by-Step

Installing a Slim D door threshold strip is a straightforward DIY task:

  1. Fit carpet gripper rods on both sides of the join to secure the carpets.
  2. Measure the width of your doorway and cut the door strip to size using a hacksaw.
  3. Position the threshold centrally over the carpet join.
  4. Tuck the carpet edges neatly into the profile on both sides.
  5. Use a carpeted wood block to gently ‘nap down’ the threshold, pressing it into the carpet.
  6. Ensure the door bar sits flush and secure across its full length.

How to Remove an Existing Door Threshold

To remove an existing door threshold, start by identifying how it has been fixed in place. Most door thresholds are secured using either screws, nails, or adhesive.

If the threshold is fixed with screws, use the correct screwdriver to carefully remove them. If the screws are difficult to turn or stuck in place, gently tap the screw heads with a hammer to help loosen them before attempting to unscrew again.

For thresholds secured with nails, use a claw hammer or pry bar to carefully lift and remove them. Work slowly and evenly along the length of the door bar to avoid damaging the surrounding flooring.

If the door threshold strip has been fitted into carpet (as with double Z bars), gently lift and release the carpet edges first before removing the bar. Take care not to damage the carpet fibres or underlay.

Clear away any remaining fixings or debris to prepare the area for your new door threshold strip.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Vacuum regularly to prevent dirt build-up around the door strip
  • Wipe with a soft cloth and mild cleaner when needed
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning to avoid marks
  • Avoid abrasive cleaning products
  • Use a suitable metal polish if you wish to maintain the shine

As this door threshold is unlacquered, the polished nickel finish may naturally develop subtle character over time, depending on use and environment.
