Flooring & Door Compatibility

Designed to sit neatly over flooring joins, this threshold provides a clean, professional finish while protecting floor edges and reducing trip hazards. Its muted brushed pewter finish offers a softer alternative to polished metals, making it ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

This threshold bar is compatible with:

  • Carpet to carpet
  • Carpet to hard floor (wood, laminate, tile or vinyl)
  • Hard floor to hard floor

Suitable for internal doors including standard hinged, sliding and most bi-fold doors, provided there is a minimum 3mm clearance beneath the door.

Choosing the Right Door Threshold Size

Selecting the correct width is important for both performance and appearance:

  • 30mm Width: Best suited to thin flooring such as vinyl or carpet tiles. Covers height differences up to 4mm. Not suitable for fitted carpets with gripper rods.
  • 38mm Width: A versatile all-round option suitable for most flooring combinations, including fitted carpet. Covers height differences up to 6–7mm.
  • 55mm Width: Ideal for thicker flooring, carpet with underlay and gripper, or where height differences reach up to 10–11mm.

Threshold lengths should be selected slightly longer than your doorway opening to allow trimming for a precise fit.

Measuring & Cutting Your Door Threshold

  1. Measure the width of the doorway at floor level
  2. Select the nearest longer threshold length
  3. Trim carefully to size using a fine-toothed hacksaw

For best results, cut slowly to avoid damaging the brushed pewter finish. You can also read our guide to cutting an interior door threshold correctly .

Installing Your Door Threshold

This threshold is designed for straightforward DIY installation using basic tools:

  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Drill and screwdriver
  • Fine-toothed hacksaw

Installation tips:

  • Position the threshold centrally over the flooring join
  • Drill pilot holes carefully and avoid underfloor heating pipes
  • Screw down firmly so fixings sit flush
  • Allow approximately 12mm expansion gap when joining two hard floors
  • Ensure the channel is clean before fitting the adhesive inlay strip

Once installed, the concealed inlay strip creates a seamless screw-free finish.

Styling & Finish

Brushed pewter offers a subtle satin appearance that works beautifully in both classic and modern interiors. It pairs particularly well with:

  • Neutral or stone-toned colour palettes
  • Traditional homes with understated metallic accents
  • Modern interiors where muted finishes are preferred over polished chrome

Maintaining Your Pewter Door Threshold

Manufactured from solid brass, Premier Posh thresholds are designed to withstand daily foot traffic in busy areas such as hallways, entrances and connecting rooms.

Over time, the pewter finish may naturally age slightly, enhancing its character and authentic appearance.

Maintenance recommendations:

  • Wipe regularly with a soft damp cloth
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning to prevent water marks
  • Use a suitable specialist metal cleaner occasionally if required

Daft price, but then it's top quality.

Paid the premium price because I needed 55mm to cover a gap and height difference between carpet and tiles. Very solid brass, and I have to say the pewter finish and matching insert look terrific.
