Premier Slim Z door bar in Antique Brass, only 22mm wide. A low-profile threshold for carpet to hard floor joins, made from solid brass and supplied with fixing screws for secure installation.

Fastest Available Option*

The Premier Slim Z Antique Brass door threshold is a refined, low-profile solution for joining carpet to hard flooring where a discreet, minimalist finish is preferred. At just 22mm wide, it is significantly slimmer than standard Z bars, making it ideal for doorways and open joins where visual balance and subtle detailing matter.

Crafted from solid brass and finished in a warm antique brass tone, this threshold combines understated design with dependable performance, securing carpet edges cleanly against a fixed hard floor surface.

What Makes the Premier Slim Z Door Threshold Different?

The Slim Z is designed specifically for situations where:

  • You are joining carpet to a hard floor
  • The hard floor is securely fixed and experiences little to no expansion
  • You want a narrow, unobtrusive threshold rather than a wider bar

At 22mm wide, it offers a much lighter visual footprint than standard Z bars (such as the Premier Z9 at 30mm), making it particularly well-suited to:

  • Narrow door frames
  • Modern interiors
  • Period properties where bulky trims would feel out of place

When choosing between Slim Z and wider alternatives, it’s worth considering the depth of your door frame to ensure the finished look feels proportionate.

How the Slim Z Door Threshold Bar Works

The Premier Slim Z features:

  • A solid brass top bar
  • A base section beneath one side that grips and secures the carpet
  • A vertical section designed to be gently depressed into the carpet pile

Once fitted, the bar sits neatly into the carpet rather than standing proud, creating a flatter, more integrated finish while holding the carpet firmly in place.

Correct Use & Floor Height Requirements

This threshold should only be used when joining carpet to hard floor coverings, such as:

  • Wood
  • Ceramic or stone tiles

The two floors must be level with each other, as the Slim Z sits flat on the sub-floor and fits over the edge of the hard flooring.

If the hard floor is slightly higher than the carpet, the supplied 3mm MDF strips can be stacked beneath the base section to raise the bar accordingly.

If the carpet sits significantly lower, Easyshims may be used to resolve the height difference.

Important: If your hard flooring needs room for expansion, this product is not suitable. In that case, a standard Z bar should be used instead.

What’s Included In This Product?

Each Premier Slim Z Antique Brass threshold is supplied with:

  • Solid brass Slim Z bar
  • Fixing screws
  • 3mm MDF packing strips for height adjustment

Everything needed for standard installation is included.

Installation & Fitting Tips

This is a DIY-friendly threshold, though care is required to achieve the best result. First, ensure you have the right size door threshold.

Key fitting guidance:

  • Use only where the hard floor has minimal movement
  • Cut the bar to length with a sharp hacksaw
  • Use the MDF strips at fixing points to raise the bar if needed
  • Nail the MDF strips securely before fitting

Once the carpet and underlay (if used) are in place:

  • “Nap down” the Slim Z by placing a block of wood wrapped in carpet on top of the bar
  • Gently tap with a hammer to depress the bar by around 3mm

This process helps the pins grip the carpet more securely and lowers the profile for a neater finish.

Cleaning & Aftercare

  • Caring for your door threshold strip is simple:
  • Wipe regularly with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning
  • Use a suitable metal polish occasionally if desired

Slight variations in finish may occur between batches due to the hand-finished process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this threshold fit my door frame and floor heights?

Yes, provided you’re joining level floors. If the hard floor is slightly higher than the carpet, use the supplied 3mm MDF strips. For larger differences, Easyshims may help.

Does it work with my door type?

It’s suitable for internal doorways and open joins, especially where shallow door frames require a slimmer threshold.

Is it compatible with my flooring?

It’s designed for carpet to hard floor joins (wood, tile, stone). The hard floor must be securely fixed with minimal expansion.

What if I’m joining two carpets?

This product isn’t suitable — use the Premier Slim D instead.

Is it durable enough for daily use?

Yes. Made from solid brass, it’s suitable for regular domestic foot traffic.

What fixings are required?

Fixing screws and MDF packing strips are included.

Will the antique brass finish match my decor?

Antique brass suits both traditional and modern interiors and pairs well with warm metal fittings.

How do I measure for this threshold?

Measure the doorway width and choose a slightly longer length to trim. Check floor levels to see if MDF strips are needed.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. It’s suitable for DIY installation using basic tools.

How do I cut it to size?

Trim using a sharp hacksaw, cutting carefully for a neat finish.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasives. As it’s unlacquered, the finish may age naturally over time.

How does it compare to other Z bars?

It’s narrower (22mm) than standard Z bars. Use a standard Z bar if floor expansion is required.

Our New Premier Trim Slim Z is for use with carpet to hard floor with minimal expansion. If you need a Z Bar to allow expansion please see our Normal Z bar.
