Carpet Binding – Transform Your Old Rugs, Carpets & Runners

Carpet binding is a fast, simple and stylish way to professionally bind carpet edges to enhance the design and stop the edges from fraying over time. Stair Rods Direct offers a stunning range of carpet binding styles for any size carpet. It doesn’t matter if your carpet wasn’t purchased through Stair Rods Direct, we can custom-create carpet bindings for your carpet or stair runner.

Our carpet binding process is far more cost-effective and much faster than traditional methods of whipping carpet edges. Using our Easybind system, an alternative to carpet binding, we’re able to transform any carpet into a runner or a rug, without the costly hassle of using traditional binding.

How Does Carpet Binding Work?

Using our Easybinding method makes light work of attaching edging using a hot glue gun. The hot melt glue gun is an essential part of the fixing and binding process and cannot be performed without it. Any glue gun should work and we can provide you with a specialist carpet binding nozzle to ensure a flush and “like new” end result.

We have provided a video tutorial below to help you follow our Easybind process.

How to Bind Your Carpet

While it’s typically advised that you have your carpet laid by a professional, there’s no reason why you won’t be able to attempt to fit your own runners or carpet. First, you will need to measure your carpet for cutting. Once this is done, you can apply ourEasybind carpet edging.

All Easybind styles from Stair Rods Direct come in a beautiful rope-style finish. We have 23 unique designs, ideal for any type of carpet, whether it’s a traditional Persian-style rug, a royal blue stair runner, or something in-between.

Next, applying the binding using a glue gun will bond the binding to the carpet or runner, there are more tips on how to do this in the video above. You can check out our technical guide for measuring and fitting Easybind carpet edging which supplies you with both written instructions and static images to guide you through the process.

Do You Have to Bind a Carpet?

If you’re looking to refresh an old carpet or have leftover carpet from a recent refurbishment project, aone of the best ways to utilise this is to make it into a rug or runner. If you attempt to make a new rug without binding the edges, you risk the rug becoming frayed and worn at the ends, especially if this rug is going to see heavy foot traffic (in a hallway or if you have kids or pets).

As well as this, when you cut the rug, it often isn’t straight – and Easybinding can help you achieve that straight edge in a smart, fast and affordable way. Binding will also stop the carpet from fraying at the edges and even add a layer of protection to the rug or runner, as raw carpet edges can be sharp.

Why Do I Need to Bind My Carpet?

There is no necessity to bind your carpet, but if you’re wanting to keep it looking fantastic throughout the years, binding is one of the best ways of extending its life.

As stated previously, binding stops carpets from fraying as well as adding a new level of aesthetic pleasure to the design. Carpets that are transformed into runners and rugs that are left unbound will look cheap, tatty and a safety hazard (due to the sharp edges of the carpet).

No Time for Binding? Buy a Carpet Runner

If you’re looking to buy a brand new stair runner or rug, we’ve got plenty to choose from.
